in so many ways, china has quickly transformed itself from a place of stark poverty into a modern, urban, technologically savvy economic powerhouse. while china’s growth strategy of relying on unskilled labor has been effective for three decades, it is now experiencing a reversal in the unskilled wage, as companies inside the country have begun automating at an unprecedented rate and are searching for cheaper labors in other countries. to guarantee the long-term sustainable development of china, it is crucial to improve the level of education and social security of labor force. in this talk, professor rozelle will carefully examine the related issue drawing on his research in china.
