researcher kaixing huang published a paper in 《european economic review》, an authoritative international economics journal.

a few days ago, researcher kaixing huang  published his paper ‘the green revolution, grain imports, and income divergence in the developing world’ as a solo article in the authoritative international economics journal .

this study explores the long-term impact of the green revolution in agriculture on economic growth in developing countries, based on long-term panel data from 1965 to 2000. the results of the study show that, for a developing country with a green revolution crop adoption rate below the developing country average, the green revolution led to an average more than twofold increase in food imports, which in turn reduced its gdp per capita by about one third. the main reasons for this significant damage were lower agricultural output, higher fertility and lower investment in human capital as a result of food imports. although the green revolution brought significant economic gains to countries with high rates of adoption, this study shows that about half of developing countries were actually negatively affected by the green revolution. for those developing countries that were damaged by the green revolution, increasing agricultural productivity is a key way to boost their economic growth.
